Skin Care- What Is Stasis Eczema?

Stasis eczema or venous eczema is caused on the lower limbs due to blood circulation problems. Stasis eczema affects those who have varicose veins or a blood clot in the legs. This kind of eczema will recur unless the cause is treated. Lets learn more about it.

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins that can occur anywhere a vein is close to skin, but they occur most often in the legs. Faulty valves in the veins and weakened and stretched vein walls cause varicose veins to develop.

Symptoms- The eczema appears as red, weepy, crusty skin. It generally appears on the lower legs where varicose veins are present. The broken skin can get infected with bacteria and cause cellulitis. It can also spread to other parts of the body and may develop discolored skin and ulcers at the spot of formation.

Laser surgery is more appealing to some patients because it does not use needles or incisions. Still, when the laser hits the skin, the patient feels a heat sensation that can be quite painful. Cooling helps reduce the pain. Laser treatments last for 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on the severity of the veins, two to five treatments are generally needed to remove spider veins in the legs. Patients can return to normal activity right after treatment, just as with sclerotherapy. For spider veins larger than 3 mm, laser therapy is not very practical.

Diet and Nutrition Follow a wholefood diet to reduce constipation and ease bowel movements. Drink plenty of water. Take a large spoonful of linseed seeds with water once a day (not at mealtimes).

Hemorrhoids (piles) and varicose veins are common conditions caused by blood collecting in veins and not returning properly to the heart for recycling usually as a result of a weakness in valves in the veins but also because of an obstruction. Constipation (causing piles ) and pregnancy (causing varicose veins) are the usual culprits, though obesity, inactivity, the habitual use of laxatives and long periods of standing have also been blamed. Veins become "lumpy" and visible as well as painful and itchy. Piles also bleed frequently.

Causes- Stasis eczema or venous eczema is caused due to faulty blood circulation in the legs. Those who have varicose veins are prone to get stasis eczema. In the legs, the muscles pump the blood back when you walk. Because of defective valves, when the blood is not pumped back, it gets accumulated in the legs causing varicose veins. It also causes eczema. This eczema is also known as gravitational eczema.

Consult a qualified practitioner/therapist for: Aromatherapy Essential oils such as cypress, juniper, peppermint, or camomile, either applied directly or mixed into a warm bath, ease discomfort.

When varicose veins cause leg symptoms such as pain, heaviness, tiredness, non healing sores, areas of changes in skin color along ankle treatment should be considered. Conservative management with support hose and avoiding prolonged standing is sometimes all that is required, but sometimes this is not enough. Prior to other treatments an ultrasound examination of the leg veins is done. This simple test guides physicians in deciding which therapy, if any, is best.

Treatment- To treat this eczema, you may have to use steroid creams. If bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be needed. Your doctor will prescribe the best medication. When your eczema gets cleared, you should get the veins treated. Otherwise the eczema may return.

Homeopathy A homeopath will prescribe according to the individual case, but Ratanhia 6c, Hamamelis 6c, Sepia 6c, and Sulfur 6c might be recommended. Hamamelis, or peony ointment, or suppositories are often usedl for acute cases. Hamamelis is particularly good for a bruised feeling with bleeding. Aloes, Nux vomica, Aesculus, and Pulsatilla are other possible forms of remedy.

The laser radiation is introduced in pulse mode and guided along the vein's lumen by slowly and continuously retracting the fiber. Activation of the laser or radio frequency catheter as the device is slowly pulled back along the course of the vein being treated.

Naturopathy "Sitz" baths - or hot and cold bathing - is recommended and ice packs can help relieve discomfort. Sitting in the water for five to ten minutes is recommended for piles.

The laser light heats only the blood and vessel," says Dr. Angle. "The heat kills the cells lining the vein and seals the vein closed." During this outpatient procedure, the skin over the abnormal vein is numbed with a local anesthetic (similar to what a dentist uses) which means the laser does not hurt. The procedure takes about 60 minutes. Persons who have this procedure should be able to return to work the following day. In addition to a short recovery time, other benefits include less cost and no scarring. A noticeable decrease in the size of varicose veins is usually seen in a couple of weeks. The body compensates for the missing vein by rerouting the blood flow to other healthy veins.

Confirmation by ultrasound that the treated vein has been closed as a result of the energy transfer from the laser or radiofrequency catheter. Self-care measures such as wearing compression stockings, elevating the legs, and exercising regularly may relieve symptoms and keep varicose veins from getting worse. Various treatments such as sclerotherapy, newer laser techniques, radiofrequency closure technique, and surgery are options when symptoms persist or if concern exists about the appearance of varicose veins.

The laser beam can cut, seal or vaporize skin tissue and blood vessels. Though Lasers have been used for the treatment of skin lesions since the 1960's, wide use of lasers for medical treatments is a relatively recent development. Recently, technological advances have improved lasers, making laser surgery a preferred method of treatment for various conditions one of which is Varicose Veins.

Herbal Medicine For piles apply ointments of pilewort, comfrey, horse chestnut, and witch hazel. Witch hazel is best for bleeding piles. An infusion of yarrow herb may be beneficial for its astringency and its influence on blood vessels. It is also good applied as a compress.

During laser treatment, the laser is applied to the skin over your spider veins. Laser energy causes your spider veins to coagulate and shrink. Laser therapy is most effective for small and medium size spider veins. Large spider veins respond poorly and are best treated with sclerotherapy. Treatments are associated with mild discomfort, not unlike a small rubber band snapping against skin. Treatments usually do not require sedatives, pain medications, or injections of local anesthetic.

"It's generally caused by venus valve dysfunction, and many people believe when they see the vein, they say 'well, this looks ugly', but they do not take care of them, especially men. And what happens over time, because of the venus congestion, you develope what is called stasis dermatitus around the ankle, and that can progress to the venus ulcer."

Varicose Veins are englarged veins that are swollen and raised above the surface of the skin and are commonly found on the back of calves or on the inside of the leg. The cause of this condition is the weakening of veins pumping blood back to the heart that causes blood to leak back into the vein and collect there. Over time, varicose veins enlarge and severe pooling of blood in the veins can slow return of blood to the heart. The result is a increased possibility of blood clots that can travel from the legs to the lungs, where they can block the heart and lungs from functioning. Other problems associated with untreated varicose veins include sores, skin ulcers, ongoing irritation, swelling, and painful rashes of the legs.

An estimated 50 percent of adults are affected by hemorrhoids at some time in their lives. They often occur during pregnancy (but usually disappear after childbirth), and as a result of constipation. Symptoms of the condition are swollen veins in and around the anus, itching, and pain, and sometimes bleeding when motions are passed. The veins can remain inside the anus or protrude from it.

To address varicose veins, there are several medical procedures available. Sclerotherapy uses an injection of solution to irritate the lining of a blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. Over time, the vein fades into scar tissue. The venus closure technique utilizes the insertion of a catheter with an electrode tip into the vein to cause the inner lining of the vein to adhere to itself, and close off. A phlebectomy removes the varicose vein with tiny incisions in the skin overlying the vein. All of these procedures are done under local anasthesia and do not require the patient to be hospitalized over night. It is not unusual to notice distention of portions of the large veins in the legs as people age. This is more common to those people whose jobs require them to stand at a longer time. This quiescent, upright position produces stagnation of the blood in the legs. Hence pressure and a steady strain upon the walls of the venous system at that point results to permanent distention, or varicose...

What are varicose veins ? Varicose veins are abnormally enlarged veins usually found in the thigh and leg. In most of cases, these large and often unsightly veins are more of a cosmetic nuisance. These veins connect with the main veins of the leg and play a small role in the transfer of blood to the heart. The veins become more noticeable as we reach our thirties and forties and are...
